Reverend Joseph P. Gentili was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese
of Philadelphia in May of 1987. He has served in various parish
positions including parochial vicar at Saint Clement Parish,
Philadelphia, and Epiphany of Our Lord Parish, Plymouth Meeting. He
taught and served as School Minister at Archbishop Carroll High
School, Radnor, for two years before being sent for graduate studies
in 1994 in the area of pastoral theology. Father Gentili earned a
Licentiate Degree (1996) and a Doctorate Degree in Sacred Theology
(1999) from Saint John Lateran University, Rome.
Upon
his return from graduate studies he was appointed to the faculty of
Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, Wynnewood PA from 1999 to 2009.
During that that time he taught various courses and served in
various positions for the College Division, Theology Division and
Religious Studies Division of the Seminary. He also served in
several capacities including teaching for the Permanent Diaconate
Program of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. He was the Director of
Continuing Formation for Diocesan Priesthood from 2000 to 2005. He
was appointed as the Administrative Secretary to the Archbishop
Emeritus in 2005 and served until 2009. He served as the Director
of Pastoral and Apostolic Formation at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary
from 2000 to 2009. He also served as Chairperson of the Pastoral
Theology Department at the Seminary. He was appointed as
Chairperson of the Archdiocesan Speaker Approval Commission in 2000
and continues to serve to the present in that position. During his
tenure at Saint Charles Seminary he assited on weekends at Epiphany
of Our Lord Parish, Plymouth Meeting. In May of 2009, Fr. Gentili
was appointed by Justin Cardinal Rigali, Archbishop of Philadelphia,
as the second pastor of Our Lady of Guadalulpe Parish. |

PART TIME PAROCHIAL VICAR:

He comes to us with much experience in serving other parishes
within the Archdiocese.
He will also serve on a part-time basis as the Director of the Office for
Special Projects
and Office for Closures at the Archdiocesan Office Center, Philadelphia. Father Navit was born in Fountain Springs (Schuylkill County), Pennsylvania.
He studied for the
priesthood at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, Overbrook. He was ordained a
priest of the Archdiocese of
Philadelphia by His Eminence, Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua in l994.
He has served as a Parochial Vicar at various parishes including: Visitation
BVM Parish, Trooper; Nativity
of Our Lord Parish, Warminster and Saint John Bosco Parish, Hatboro. In 2004 he was appointed Pastor of Saint Francis de Sales Parish and Most
Blessed Sacrament Parish,
both in West Philadelphia. Leading the parishes through a thorough pastoral
planning process, in 2008 he
oversaw the merger of the two parishes into one parish. In addition to the
church and its vibrant spiritual and
pastoral life, the parish sponsors a parochial school for over 500 students and
an Outreach Center and supports a
literacy center and senior citizens center. At the conclusion of a comprehensive
architectural and engineering
study of the unique and historic Saint Francis de Sales Church, he led a
successful parish capital campaign
to begin to address the restoration of the church building and the strengthening
of parish outreach.
In addition to his parish duties, Father Navit has served as Master of
Ceremonies for His Eminence, Cardinal
Bevilacqua, Chaplain of Mount Saint Joseph's Academy, Flourtown, and Vocation
Coordinator for Philadelphia-South Vicariate. He was a member of the Ongoing Formation Committee of the
Office for Clergy and assisted
the Office for Special Projects. In 2008, he coordinated the participation of
the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in the
Pastoral Visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the United States. He is presently
Coordinator of the biennial Pilgrimage of
the Archdiocese to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate
Conception and President of the Priest
Alumni Association of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary and serves on the Priests'
Advisory Committee for the
Heritage of Faith-Vision of Hope initiative of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
