Advent Preaching Series: The Eucharist
This Advent, Our Lady of Guadalupe is presenting an Advent Preaching Series. Each week, the homily will focus on an aspect of the great gift of the Holy Eucharist and how it relates to daily life. In addition, one homily each weekend will be videotaped, so if you miss Mass or just want to reflect on the homily a second time, you will be able to watch it again on the parish website.
Finally, Formed.org is offering a wonderful online series called “Presence: The Mystery of the Eucharist”. You can find instructions to sign up for Formed.org on the parish website (www.olguadalupe.org/formed). This a wonderful supplement to our series.
We hope you take the time to prepare for the coming of Jesus by fully participating in our Advent Preaching Series.

2019 - THE Advent PREACHING series
The Eucharist -
1st Sunday of Advent
1st Sunday of Advent: Eucharist as Real Presence
"The mode of Christ's presence under the Eucharistic species is unique. It raises the Eucharist above all the sacraments as "the perfection of the spiritual life and the end to which all the sacraments tend." In the most blessed sacrament of the Eucharist "the body and blood, together with the soul and divinity, of our Lord Jesus Christ and, therefore, the whole Christ is truly, really, and substantially contained." "This presence is called 'real' - by which is not intended to exclude the other types of presence as if they could not be 'real' too, but because it is presence in the fullest sense: that is to say, it is a substantial presence by which Christ, God and man, makes himself wholly and entirely present (Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 1374)."
2ND Sunday of Advent
2ND Sunday of Advent: Eucharist as a Sacrifice
"The Eucharist is the memorial of Christ's Passover, the making present and the sacramental offering of his unique sacrifice, in the liturgy of the Church which is his Body...The Eucharist is thus a sacrifice because it re-presents (makes present) the sacrifice of the cross, because it is its memorial and because it applies its fruit...The sacrifice of Christ and the sacrifice of the Eucharist are one single sacrifice (Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 1362, 1366, 1367)."
3RD Sunday of Advent
3RD Sunday of Advent: Eucharist as a Sacrament
"The Eucharist is 'the source and summit of the Christian life.' The life of the Church is bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 1324).
Eucharist as a Sacrament
4th Sunday of Advent
Making a Good Holy Communion
4TH Sunday of Advent: Making a Good Holy Communion
Holy Communion increases our union with Christ, preserves the life of grace received at Baptism, separates us from sin, and strengthens our ability to love (Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 1391-94).
FORMED video program for Advent - 2019
Please continue learning more about the Eucharist through the FORMED video Advent Series.
Although the Eucharist appears to be simple bread and wine, it is actually the "source and summit" of the Christian life. The Mystery of the Eucharist explores the truth and beauty of Christ's real presence in the Eucharist, from its origins in Sacred Scripture, to its profound role in the life of the Church and her members. It is the crescendo of the entire story of salvation.
