Message from Monsignor Regarding Abortion and Senate Bill 956

Dear Parishioners,

I strongly urge all to read and participate in the take action item recommended.

The Constitutional Amendment to keep abortion out of the PA Constitution has now been introduced in the state legislature. Senate Bill 956 would ensure that there is no right to abortion or taxpayer funding of abortion in the PA Constitution. Read the text of the amendment here.

Action Item:
It is critically important that we contact our PA state representative and state senator and urge them to support this Constitutional Amendment. You can contact your state lawmakers conveniently online.

https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/billInfo/billInfo.cfm?sYear=2021&sInd=0&body=S&type=B&bn=0956

Background:
The abortion industry has gone to court to try to establish a so-called right to abortion and taxpayer funding of abortion under the PA Constitution. The case is now before the PA Supreme Court. If the abortion industry wins the case, all of our pro-life laws could be wiped out. That would mean taxpayer funding of abortion, no ban on late-term abortion, no parental consent for abortion, no 24-hour waiting period for abortion, no inspection and regulation of abortion facilities. Tragically, it could mean abortions up to the moment of birth in Pennsylvania. In order to stop this disastrous scenario from occurring, we need a Constitutional Amendment to keep abortion out of the PA Constitution.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

In Christ,

Monsignor Gentili

Save the Hyde Amendment!

Stop Taxpayer Funding of Abortion. Save the Hyde Amendment!

People should not be forced to pay for abortion with their tax dollars against their will. The Hyde Amendment has majority support. A January 2021 Marist poll found that 58% of Americans oppose federal funding of abortion. A November 2020 McLaughlin poll found that 64% of Americans oppose taxpayer funding of abortion. The McLaughlin poll notably found that 69% of Independents and even 49% of Democrats oppose taxpayer of abortion.

The Hyde Amendment has enjoyed bipartisan support since 1976 and has been continually included in the appropriations process since then. The Hyde Amendment is estimated to have saved over 2.4 million lives. It was estimated that before the Hyde Amendment took effect, the Medicaid program was paying for about 300,000 elective abortions annually, and that number was escalating rapidly.

The Hyde Amendment is not discriminatory. It saves babies of all ethnicities. Government funding of abortion is discriminatory. According to the Centers for Disease Control, African American babies are killed by abortion at a rate more than three times that of non-Hispanic white babies and Hispanic babies are aborted at a rate of almost 75% greater than that of nonHispanic white babies. Taxpayer funding of abortion would kill even more African American and Hispanic babies. President Biden and the pro-abortion Democratic leadership should not be allowed to remove the Hyde Amendment and force everyone to pay for abortion with their tax dollars.

First Friday Observation

When:
Friday, June 09, 2023

Time:
After the 8:00 a.m. Mass until Benediction at 4:00 p.m.

Where:
Our Lady of Guadalupe Church

First Friday is a special time of grace and blessing, as it enables us, through Eucharistic Adoration, to grow closer to Our Lord, Who is present Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Most Blessed Sacrament. First Friday is a time to slow down a bit and receive God's love into our hearts, so we in turn can give that love to others. Eucharistic Adoration is a great way to
focus on Jesus and be refreshed in His service!

How can I get Involved in this Special Time?
Visit OLG Church and spend some quiet time in prayer with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. The church will be open after the 8:00 a.m. Mass until the Benediction at 4:00 p.m. Sign up for a half-hour of Eucharistic Adoration today. Or just show up! Call the parish office to sign up.
