Are You Being Called? Permanent Diaconate Information Session

When:
Thursday, September 22, 2022

Time:
7:00 pm

Where:
Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary
Vianney Auditorium
100 East Wynnewood Road
Wynnewood, PA 19096

Are You Being Called to be a Deacon?
Please register below for the Permanent Diaconate Information Session

Who is the Deacon? He is a Minister of the Word; a Minister at the Altar; and a Minister of Charity

While all the baptized are called to share in the mission of Jesus Christ according to the gifts of the Holy Spirit, those who are ordained also offer service in a way proper to the Sacrament of Holy Orders. A deacon’s ministry entails proclaiming, preaching and teaching God’s Word, assisting the bishop and priest at the Liturgy, assisting at funerals, ministering to the sick and dying, leading the community in prayer and in sacramental liturgies, baptizing, witnessing marriages, and exercising administrative leadership in the Church.

A permanent deacon, who may be married, is a member of the clergy and shares in the hierarchy of the Sacrament of Holy Orders.

By virtue of his ordination, the deacon assists the bishop and collaborates with his pastor in the service of the parish to which he is assigned. He is not a substitute for the priest, nor is he a lay liturgical minister. He is an ordained member of the clergy. And it is through the Sacrament of Holy Orders, that the deacon is configured to Christ the Servant. It is Christ the Servant who acts through the ministry of the deacon.

Message from Monsignor Regarding Abortion and Senate Bill 956

Dear Parishioners,

I strongly urge all to read and participate in the take action item recommended.

The Constitutional Amendment to keep abortion out of the PA Constitution has now been introduced in the state legislature. Senate Bill 956 would ensure that there is no right to abortion or taxpayer funding of abortion in the PA Constitution. Read the text of the amendment here.

Action Item:
It is critically important that we contact our PA state representative and state senator and urge them to support this Constitutional Amendment. You can contact your state lawmakers conveniently online.

https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/billInfo/billInfo.cfm?sYear=2021&sInd=0&body=S&type=B&bn=0956

Background:
The abortion industry has gone to court to try to establish a so-called right to abortion and taxpayer funding of abortion under the PA Constitution. The case is now before the PA Supreme Court. If the abortion industry wins the case, all of our pro-life laws could be wiped out. That would mean taxpayer funding of abortion, no ban on late-term abortion, no parental consent for abortion, no 24-hour waiting period for abortion, no inspection and regulation of abortion facilities. Tragically, it could mean abortions up to the moment of birth in Pennsylvania. In order to stop this disastrous scenario from occurring, we need a Constitutional Amendment to keep abortion out of the PA Constitution.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

In Christ,

Monsignor Gentili

Save the Hyde Amendment!

Stop Taxpayer Funding of Abortion. Save the Hyde Amendment!

People should not be forced to pay for abortion with their tax dollars against their will. The Hyde Amendment has majority support. A January 2021 Marist poll found that 58% of Americans oppose federal funding of abortion. A November 2020 McLaughlin poll found that 64% of Americans oppose taxpayer funding of abortion. The McLaughlin poll notably found that 69% of Independents and even 49% of Democrats oppose taxpayer of abortion.

The Hyde Amendment has enjoyed bipartisan support since 1976 and has been continually included in the appropriations process since then. The Hyde Amendment is estimated to have saved over 2.4 million lives. It was estimated that before the Hyde Amendment took effect, the Medicaid program was paying for about 300,000 elective abortions annually, and that number was escalating rapidly.

The Hyde Amendment is not discriminatory. It saves babies of all ethnicities. Government funding of abortion is discriminatory. According to the Centers for Disease Control, African American babies are killed by abortion at a rate more than three times that of non-Hispanic white babies and Hispanic babies are aborted at a rate of almost 75% greater than that of nonHispanic white babies. Taxpayer funding of abortion would kill even more African American and Hispanic babies. President Biden and the pro-abortion Democratic leadership should not be allowed to remove the Hyde Amendment and force everyone to pay for abortion with their tax dollars.

Pennsylvania Pro-life Federation

Dear Members of the Parish,

As your pastor, I highly encourage you to participate in this request from the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, regarding these important pieces of legislation, and contacting Senators Toomey and Casey.

The links will guide you through the process. If you are unable to do this, then I would encourage you to make a phone call. Thank you for your efforts at being involved and informed citizens and Catholics.

Sincerely Yours in Our Lord,

Monsignor Joseph P. Gentili

So-Called Equality Act
Please contact U.S. Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey and urge them to oppose the so-called Equality Act (H.R. 5). The bill would potentially expand abortion in general, and taxpayer funding of abortion in particular. Contact Senators Casey and Toomey here:

National Right to Life
National Right to Life Committee opposed passage of H.R. 5. In addition to other issues, H.R. 5 poses a significant pro-life threat. More on this legislation can be found here:
